Our History

The 100 Black Men of Dekalb was formed in 1991 by 14 businessmen from Dekalb County. The men wanted an organization in their community where they could devote their time and resources.
The Leadership Academy, the flagship community program, was conceptualized in 1992 to target young African American boys who are the target group in the community and at risk. The Chapter Board of Directors empowered the President-Elect to proceed in establishing a leadership program through the DeKalb County Public School System. Working with the Chapter’s Education Committee and the DeKalb County School System these men began the program in three schools: Snapfinger, Wadsworth, and Knollwood Elementary Schools.
Today, The Leadership Academy has evolved into an expanded program that has served more than 1,500 youth in DeKalb County. The pillars of the program include mentorship, leadership, education & training, health & wellness, and economic empowerment. The program is supported through corporate donations and individual contributions.
The 100 Black Men of Dekalb County’s annual Scholarship Gala Weekend represents the largest fundraising event for the season. Once acclaimed as the Casino Royale, the event has evolved into a full weekend of events honoring Leadership Academy graduates and students, and community leaders. The Scholarship Gala Weekend presents the opportunity to highlight the work of 100 Black Men of Dekalb County while raising awareness and financial contributions. The fundraising supports the curriculum, activities, and scholarships offered to the students.
