Program Overview

The Dr. Raymon Crawford Youth Global Citizenship Program is a transformative initiative of 100 Black Men of DeKalb County designed to broaden the academic and cultural horizons of young men in our community. Through structured pre-travel academic preparation, mentorship, and immersive international experiences, participants develop global awareness, leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of their place in the world.

Program Goals

• Expand participants’ global awareness and cultural competency
• Strengthen academic performance through real-world, experiential learning
• Build leadership capacity and self-confidence in young men
• Foster a sense of global citizenship and civic responsibility
• Create lasting bonds between mentors and mentees through shared experiences

What Participants Experience

Participants engage in a comprehensive program that begins months before travel. Pre-trip preparation includes academic workshops, cultural orientation sessions, and mentorship meetings. During travel, students visit historical sites, cultural institutions, universities, and community organizations. Post-trip, participants present their learnings to peers, families, and community stakeholders.

Academic Integration

The program is designed to complement and reinforce participants’ academic studies. Students complete research projects, journaling assignments, and presentations tied to the destinations visited. Academic mentors track progress and provide guidance throughout the program cycle.

Mentorship Component

Every participant is paired with a 100 Black Men of DeKalb County member mentor who accompanies them through the full program journey — from preparation through travel and post-trip reflection. This sustained mentorship relationship is a cornerstone of the program’s impact.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of the International Education & Travel Explorers Program demonstrate measurable improvements in academic engagement, cultural awareness, and leadership confidence. Many participants go on to pursue international studies, global careers, and civic leadership roles in their communities.
